Reflect learning of Seminar in English Language of Teaching
What did I learn from this course?
I learned about;
1. Global Englishes, ESL/EFL
Global Englishes is English as an international language. People speak English to communicate with native speaker or not. Krachu divided people who speak English into three circles. They are ENL(English as an native language) such as; U.S.A, U.K, Canada , ESL(English as second language) suah as; Singapore, Malaysia, and EFL(English as foreign language ) such as; Thailand, China, Japan.

2. Role of English Language Teaching
The beginning of the role of English language that began from colonization of westerner. Many countries in Asian had been colonized and they had to speak or learn English tacitly that these countries are Malaysia, Singapore, Philippine and etc.
However some countries weren't colonized of westerner. They accept English language because English was considered to access Western science, technology, and trade.
3. Factors affecting English Language Teaching and Learning
There are three factors; students, teachers, and learning environment. Students have differences in ages, learning styles, abilities, and motivation. So teacher should consider about these things and divided students' abilities or ages for easy to teaching. Moreover, teacher should consider about their beliefs, abilities, styles, and materials to teach students. Teacher should learn always, believe that students' abilities can improve. The last is learning environment. It should be interesting to learn, clean, save, and help to improve students' abilities. In addition, the relationship between teacher -students, students-students, teacher-teacher are good too.
4. Problems of English Language Teaching
Students are poorly-motivated, learners of mixed abilities in overly large classes, rare opportunities for students exposure to English outside of class time, being too shy to speak English. Teacher is unqualified and poorly-trained, heavy teaching loads, teachers' insufficient English language skills and cultural knowledge. But we can solve these problems by creating the best environment for learning.
5. ICT and English Language Teaching and Learning
Technology has important for learning English. Teacher can use technology to teach English in many ways such as; write diary or reflection of subject through weblog, watch English movies and etc. However before teacher lets students do these activities, teacher should teach them before that how to use and howto write.
6. Trends in EFL
1. The Starting Grade of English Language Education (most of these countries start at grade 1)
2. English Class Hours(Thailand = 3/4 week)
3. National English Curriculum (Thailand = 1st to 12th grade)
4. School Textbooks (Thailand: teachers or English-related departments develop their own teaching materials.)
5. Teaching English Through English (Thailand: tertiary English)
6. The Use of Computer for English Language Education(Thailand: ICT(self-access learning centers))
7. The University Entrance Examination (Thailand: Nation-wide exams)
8. English Teachers (Thailand: generalists)
9. Tertiary English Education (Thailand: mixed with the native language)
10. English-medium Subjects (Thailand: Junior Secondary, Senior Secondary, and Tertiary classes)
11. Problems and Concerns in Primary & Secondary English Education (Thailand: implementing policies, research studies for academic promotion, lack of qualified teachers)
7. Communicative Language Teaching
Communicative language teaching is an approach. It’s modern approach to teach language by using activities, focusing on speaking and listening in real situation. However, CLT focus on fluency over accuracy that accuracy is important in some works. Another thing, CLT focus on communication but not focus on context. So in EFL context that students don’t have opportunity to use target language, language teaching in EFL context is not quite successful.
English teacher in EFL context should apply some of CLT to use appropriately and also aware to abilities of his/her students.
8. 21st Century Skills
In 21st century, skills that important are learning and innovation skills, information media and technology skills, life and career skills. learners have knowledge, know how to seeking knowledge, creative thinking, can use technology and see through the tricks of technology. In addition, they must know how to live with another and have honest careers.
9. Sociocultural Theory
Sociocultural theory is an emerging theory in psychology that looks at the important contributions that society makes to individual development. This theory stresses the interaction between developing people and the culture in which they live. This theory suggests that human learning is largely a social process.
KEYS: 1. ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development)
- teach students how to do
- let them do by helping nothing (they can do it by themselves)
2. Scaffolding
- team work
- help each other
- teach "what I do and how to do" not just "what I do"

What is the difficult in this course and how to solve the problems?
: I found that this course quite difficult in vocabulary and how to translate correctly. I solved these problems by using dictionary and discuss with friends. Mostly friends in group work helped me understand through discussion or explanation. Moreover teacher suggested the good ways to study or read journal and issues. I'm thankful you in here.
What about attitude in learning?
I like learning like this course because I had opportunities to show about my opinions or ideas with friends through discussion. This way taught me about how to do group work, listening to other opinions or idea and it's practicing assign duties and cooperation to fight with works. Friends helped me a lot. thank you. In addition teacher often encouraged us. I often read the journal that teacher assigned but it's not same topics such as; teacher assigns to read two journal, I will read the journal that teacher didn't discuss in this week. I was very confused with myself. I'm so sorry to teacher very much. But I thank you very much for your tolerance every times that we made you disappointed.

What are the implications in the future?
The knowledge that I got for this class. They have benefits for me to use in future such as ICT, I may assign my students learn English trough Youtube or various web sites, watching English movies, practice pronunciation vocabulary correctly, use activities of CLT in the classroom to encourage them interest in studying English.
