Day 5

Today is Tuesday.

Date 7th February, 2017

In the morning I learned about The Role of English Language Education in Asian Context through presentation from friends, discussion in group and summary by teacher.

The role of English language education in Asian context that affects a long time. Since past to until today and continue to future because of many reason such as; colonization of westerner, trade, science, technology, economic, and etc.

The beginning of the role of English language that began from colonization of westerner such as the United Kingdom and the United States. Many countries in Asian had been colonized and they had to speak or learn English tacitly that these countries are Malaysia, Singapore, Philippine and etc.

However some countries weren't colonized of westerner. They accept English language because English was considered to access Western science, technology, and trade.

Until today, those countries that had been colonized, they are bilingual language because they use English and native language as a official language, use English in real life and in daily life. Although they have a few differences in pronunciation and a few lexical borrowing such as; in Singapore, people speak SCE (Singapore Colloquial English) or Singlish.

But some countries like China, Egypt, and especially Thailand; students learn English as a Foreign Language. They are native speaker and learn English with teacher who is native speaker, too, combine with they aren't speak English in real situation or daily life, it makes some students don't aware to the importance of English and some students are shy and worry in themselves when they speak English, so these things are trouble to learning English very much.

In the last, English has the role in Asian very much because people in Asian increase very rapidly and they use English as a Lingua Franga in some groups such as; ASEAN. So Asian English plays a very important role in the globalized world.

The discussion in group, I found some problem that was when I and friends couldn't interpret some sentences, it made us couldn't understand text clearly. This was problem, I thought it made us took more time for trying interpret the text. On the other hand, it helped us to practice interpreting text by ourselves. It's good, too.

Thanks!!! for TODAY :)

Day 9

21 March, 2017 Today I learned about the Effect of New Technologies on English by David Crystal.  He talked about the Effect of New Technologies on English such as; CMC (computer mediated communication), 2.0 (twitter), WWW., hypermedia. The new technologies actually enhance the English language, they facilitate new pursuits by developing a new style of the English language.  Twitter is not asking us about ourselves anymore, it is more in third person, therefore asking use what is going on around us.  How the Internet help teaching English?  > Weblogs enhancing EFL students > chatting with friends in real life in English > write diary > make you think in different way English is spread worldwide and most of technology and internet has English as written on various pages. So Internet has many benefits to teach English. Thanks!!
